Serving of Eviction Notice Turns Deadly in Texas

A man opened fire in College Station, Texas this week, while being served an eviction notice. A family member described the 35-year-old man, Thomas Caffall, as a “ticking time bomb.” His mother said he’d been having difficulties with his mental health, and his stepfather feared he would harm them.

Caffall shot and killed the local constable who was serving an eviction notice on Caffall’s small, one-story house, located about two blocks from Texas A&M University. Also killed in the half-hour-long shootout were a bystander and the gunman, who was shot by police. Three College Station police officers were shot and wounded, and a Texas A&M student’s mother was seriously wounded when bullets struck her car.
